Labor & Delivery Story | IVF Pregnancy

Finally here to share one of the most amazing, exhausting & emotional days of my life. After experiencing such an intense final few weeks of pregnancy (you can read about that here, if you missed it), my induction was scheduled for October 8th, which was exactly 1 week from my original due date (October 15th). I was already dilating and thinning out on my own, just slowly, so my OB wanted me to check in to the hospital the night before to start the induction slowly. She was confident my body would respond quickly, but it is hard to tell how you’ll respond with your first delivery. She knew that I was aiming for a vaginal delivery and that I wanted to avoid a c-section if at all possible. The entire day before seemed to creep by. I tried to enjoy my last day of this pregnancy, but it was hard to do anything else. I knew that I would not be able to eat once I checked into the hospital until after I delivered, so we went to Chili’s and I tried to eat but basically failed. We arrived at the hospital at 10pm on Friday (10/07), had to wait […]

Overdue Update: The End of My Pregancy and Prodromal Labor

Obviously, an embarrassingly long amount of time has passed since I last posted. I’ve actually attempted to write something several times, but I forgot to save the draft so they all disappeared. I also lacked motivation to do much of anything other than my number one priority: motherhood. I have so many things to say about my labor & delivery, life with a newborn, product reviews, and on and on. But first, let’s catch up on the end of my pregnancy. When I last posted, I was around 35 weeks pregnant, and my body was just starting to prepare for labor. At my 36 week appointment, I had progressed a little more, and that day I had started feeling more regular contractions. They continued throughout my OBGYN visit and my doctor let me know that if they continued and I wanted to be checked out, just to go to L&D at the hospital. The contractions stuck around for several more hours, increasing in intensity and consistency, eventually getting to 4-5 minutes apart. They weren’t Braxton Hicks, since they were consistent, became closer together, and grew in intensity. I ended up going to L&D, getting monitored for a few hours, and sent […]

Absentee

Well, clearly I went MIA again. So many things have happened and this third trimester has just been flying by! I want to do a proper post on my beautiful baby shower(s), so hopefully I get around to doing that soon. For now, here is a much needed pregnancy update! How far along: 35 weeks, 2 days. So close! Gender: Boy! Weight gain: Somewhere around 13 lbs. I don’t know how it’s happened, since I feel so big, but I’m just counting it as a blessing! Maternity clothes: Most definitely. Nothing else fits! Stretch marks: Only a few on my left thigh, nothing too bad and I’m not too worried about it. I’ve been using stretch mark cream about 4-5 times a week (sometimes I forget and sometimes I just don’t feel like applying it), but I’m convinced it’s just genetic. No big deal! Belly button in or out: In, but it is so weird looking! Don’t think it’ll pop out at all. Sleep: I wake up about every hour to reposition myself and/or go to the bathroom. I’m used to it by now! I also feel very sore all over when I wake up in the morning. I’m sure some […]

Finally Updating!

It’s crazy how fast the last few weeks have flown by. I cannot believe I’m almost in my 3rd trimester and that this little guy will be here in less than 100 days. What in the world? Where does the time go? I’ve been flaky and distracted with the billion other things going on, but finally forced myself to sit down and update. How far along: Twenty-six weeks and 5 days. Gender: Boy! Weight gain: About 8-9 lbs. Maternity clothes: Yes! Stretch marks: So far none that I can see. Belly button in or out: In. Sleep: Finally found a system that sort of works, but requires a lot of setup. I basically have two pregnancy wedges, one under my belly and one under my back. I’ve also added a pillow between my legs, which helps with some of the more recent pains I’ve been dealing with. Even with this, I’m getting up 2-3 times a night to go to the bathroom, and waking up almost every hour to switch sides. I guess this is just my body preparing me for the future! Best moment this week: Even though it was an impromptu visit, getting to see the baby on […]

Do What You Gotta Do

Once you become pregnant, you suddenly become the recipient of so much advice. Of course, it’s well intended, and (for me) well received. But sometimes the advice you get sucks. Often times, the sucky advice I received was from various blogs and people on the internet, and usually the words that irritated me the most were about eating. So, let’s talk about that. I was one of the fortunate women that had “morning” sickness, which was really all-dang-day sickness. Shortly after the nausea turned to sickness, I was put on Diclegis, which is essentially a mix of an antihistamine and Vitamin B6. Unfortunately, this only helped sometimes, and at around 6-8 weeks I was battling a cold with congestion and this just made the nausea/vomiting even worse. For those 2 weeks I had a hard time keeping most meals down, which absolutely sucked. When I did eat, it certainly wasn’t healthy. So, imagine how great I felt about myself when I read blogs, emails, tweets, Instagram posts, etc all about eating for baby and how important nutrition was during pregnancy. I felt like a failure. I couldn’t keep much down and what I was keeping down was macaroni and cheese, frozen chicken nuggets, […]

Whirlwind

This week has been full of ups and downs.  Down: I had some spotting (last) Sunday night that freaked me out. I called my OBGYN’s office after hours and spoke with a nurse, who said it was probably nothing. To just relax and call in the morning to schedule an ultrasound for that day. Right, relax, I’m great at that.  Up: The spotting did end up being nothing serious. Baby boy is doing great, looks awesome, and even gave us a sweet little profile picture to take home with us. Also, he likes looking at my back and is really sprawled out in there.  Down: I found out that I had an infection in an unmentionable place that was causing the spotting and had to take some gross medication in a gross way. We won’t get into that.  Up: Ever since last Monday, baby boy has been more active and moving around a bunch. He especially likes to move around when I really have to pee. No complaints here, I’m really enjoying it.  Down: I realized, once again, how sucky I am with scheduling, planning, and just overall being organized. I have about 18 weeks to improve these life skills […]

Halfway There

Another week down, time for a check-in! Really trying to stick to my new Tuesday/Thursday blog post schedule, so even though this one is a little late, I’m getting better. How far along: Twenty weeks, 3 days. Halfway there! Gender: Boy! Weight gain: Not sure, guessing around 4-5 lbs, but I try not to weigh myself. Otherwise, I obsess over whether it’s enough… Maternity clothes: Yes, I even went and bought a maternity swim suit. Stretch marks: None, yet. I was having a lot of issues with the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter not absorbing into my skin until I applied it straight out of the shower, so I’m alternating between that and the Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter. So far, so good. Belly button in or out: In. Sleep: I would probably sleep better sans two dogs, especially when a certain Doberman likes to sleep in my back. So, overall, sleep isn’t as enjoyable these days. Best moment this week: Wearing my maternity swimsuit and looking pregnant. I love looking pregnant, at least for now! Worst moment this week: Every time we get closer to doctor’s appointment’s I get anxious. I know it’s because of our past experiences, but I hate getting so stressed out and feeling negative. Miss anything: Still […]

Catching Up!

Since I’ve been slacking on updates, here’s one to catch everyone up on weeks 16-19! How far along: Nineteen weeks, 3 days. Gender: It’s a BOY! I’ll post the reveal video at the end of this post. Weight gain: About 4-5 lbs. Maternity clothes: Pretty much all maternity, except a few tops here and there. Stretch marks: None, yet, still using the cocoa butter cream. But sometimes I do forget. Belly button in or out: In. Sleep: Not having as easy of a time falling asleep and I wake up several times throughout the night to change position. Best moment this week: Getting more confident that I’m feeling movement! I still question it every time, but I’m definitely more convinced that it’s him and not just gas. Haha. Worst moment this week: A lot of gas and indigestion. Miss anything: Still nothing. Movement: Pretty confident that I’m feeling movement, especially when I’m laying in bed, or sitting for a while. It’s faint still, since he only weighs about 1/2 a pound. Cravings: French fries and Eggo waffles. Queasy or sick: Still a little queasy in the mornings, especially now that I’m completely off of Diclegis (the medication I was given for the nausea/vomiting). But nothing too terrible. Looking forward to: The next ultrasound, which […]

Past Post: (Almost) Fifteen Weeks

*Written on April 22, 2016* How far along: Fifteen weeks today! Gender: Finding out tomorrow at our gender reveal. I’ll be taking video and pictures of the party and will definitely share that in a blog post. Weight gain: Not exactly sure, since I was throwing up so much during the first trimester/wasn’t weighing myself, I don’t know what I ended up at. I’d guess not more than 1-2 lbs. Maternity clothes: A mixture of maternity & non-maternity. Stretch marks: None and I started using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark Cream yesterday. (Verdict so far: smells amazing!) I’ll do a thorough review later on. Belly button in or out: In. Sleep: It’s getting harder and harder to find a comfortable position lately, I definitely see a pregnancy pillow in my near future. Best moment this week: Realizing that I actually look more pregnant than just bloated now. Worst moment this week: Morning sickness kind of came back, but luckily it’s not as bad as it has been. I’ve only gotten sick a couple of times. Miss anything: Still nothing. Movement: None yet. Cravings: Cantaloupe and (still) tacos. Queasy or sick: Mainly in the mornings, I’ve gotten sick a couple of times, unfortunately. Looking forward to: Finding out the gender! And the next ultrasound! As mentioned above, […]

The Announcement

I have already posted this on Instagram and Facebook, but wanted to make it official on the blog as well… WE’RE PREGNANT (!!!) I have many more things to say and now that I’m out of the first trimester/don’t feel like complete death, I am actually able to tolerate sitting here long enough to say it. Though I’ve been very absent lately, partially due to the sickness and also the anxiety of when to share, how to share, what to share…etc. I’m going to start doing weekly updates from here on out, so I can really document this pregnancy. I have plenty to share about the first trimester, so that will happen soon, too. Expect the good, the bad, and the ugly. There were some bumps along the way. This has by no means been an uneventful pregnancy, but we’re just so thankful for it anyways. How far along: 13 weeks, 3 days (officially 2nd trimester, according to gestation & development!) Gender: We find out in about a week and a half! My vote is for girl, Kevin’s is for boy. Weight gain: Maybe 1lb., with all the morning sickness, I hadn’t gained any as of last week. Maternity clothes: Maternity bottoms, but I can […]
